TWIN FALLS, Idaho – Hope to Dream, a leading non-profit organization dedicated to providing beds for children in need, is proud to announce a momentous milestone in their partnership with Sleep in Heavenly Peace. For the past five years, these two organizations have worked tirelessly to ensure that children experiencing bedding insecurity receive the comfort and security of a proper mattress. In celebration of this successful collaboration, Hope to Dream is making a significant donation of 1,000 mattresses to Sleep in Heavenly Peace.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace shares in Hope to Dream’s mission of providing beds to children who would otherwise go without. Together, they have created a powerful alliance focused on delivering a good night’s sleep and a sense of security to those most in need. This crucial partnership has positively impacted the lives of countless children and families throughout the United States and across several countries.

Luke Mickelson, founder and head of development of Sleep in Heavenly Peace

“We are thrilled to mark the fifth anniversary of our partnership with Sleep in Heavenly Peace by donating 1,000 mattresses,” said Ruthie Bautista, Vice President of Hope to Dream. “This is a testament to the unwavering commitment of both organizations towards improving the lives of children across the nation. Our shared dedication to ensuring every child has a safe and comfortable place to sleep has been the driving force behind this successful collaboration.”

Sleep in Heavenly Peace aligns perfectly with Hope to Dream’s aim of providing proper bedding solutions to children facing difficult circumstances. By delivering quality mattresses and bedding accessories, these organizations bring warmth, comfort, and a sense of stability to countless lives. Hope to Dream and local Ashley stores have supplied over 8,000 beds towards this achievement over the course of the partnership. A portion of every mattress purchased at participating Ashley stores helps Hope to Dream provide beds to children in need.

“We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing partnership with Hope to Dream,” said Luke Mickelson, Founder and Head of Development of Sleep in Heavenly Peace. “This donation of 1,000 mattresses will go a long way in helping us continue our mission of ensuring no child has to sleep on the floor. Our shared dedication to improving the lives of children in need has been the key to our success, and we look forward to continuing this impactful partnership in the years to come.”

Together, Hope to Dream and Sleep in Heavenly Peace remain committed to helping children experience the transformative power of a good night’s sleep.

NORTH BRUNSWICK, New Jersey – Bedding Industries of America (BIA), a leading mattress manufacturer, will highlight its Eclipse HOPE mattress collection this July at the Summer Las Vegas Furniture Market in partnership with the Susan G. Komen Foundation, to encourage retailers to prepare for consumer interest and promotion ahead of breast cancer awareness month in October.

The Eclipse HOPE mattress collection, distinguished by its stylish cover with pink highlights, offers a variety of premium mattress offerings, with the top-of-the-line model featuring BIA’s patented Spinal Zone Version III, a product that has micro coils embedded in the lumbar region of the mattress for additional support and comfort. With over 1,200 coils in the queen size model, the HOPE mattress not only provides for a restful night’s sleep, but is a prime example of cause marketing that resonates with consumers.

With every purchase of the HOPE mattress, BIA donates five percent to the Susan G. Komen foundation, a leading breast cancer awareness organization.

“We are proud to partner with the Komen foundation to help raise awareness for breast cancer prevention. By offering the product in the summer, it enables dealers to have the time to order, plan and start promoting the program prior to October,” said BIA Chief Operating Officer, Phil Carlitz. “Our goal is to arm dealers with everything they need to promote and drive traffic this fall when consumer interest and awareness is at its height and raise as much as we can for this cause.”

“The striking pink accents on this mattress stand out in our showroom, and it will turn dealer’s heads. Women continue to the be the primary decision maker in mattress purchasing decisions and consumers will gravitate to the Eclipse HOPE display in support of this important cause,” he added.

The Eclipse HOPE mattress collection starts at $999 in queen and will be prominently displayed at BIA’s Las Vegas showroom space B-1118 at the World Market Center.

TAMARAC, Fla. – City Furniture, a family-owned American furniture and mattress retailer, fine upholstery manufacturer, and one of America’s top 125 furniture retailers, is proud to announce that it has raised an impressive $691,987 for the American Heart Association (AHA) this year. This remarkable achievement surpasses City’s initial pledge to raise $650,000 through City’s 5% Giving Pledge.

Leading the charge for the retailer’s heart-healthy initiatives is Andrew Koenig, chief executive officer of City Furniture, alongside his wife Deana. As chairs of the 2024 Broward Heart Ball, they have been at the forefront of encouraging healthy lifestyle choices, such as eating well, exercising, and monitoring blood pressure.

“City Furniture’s commitment to fighting heart disease is embedded in our DNA,” Andrew Koenig said. “For over seven years, our fundraising efforts have empowered communities to take action and embrace heart-healthy living. Together with the AHA, our associates, and customers, we will continue to champion heart health and make a positive impact on our community.”

City Furniture’s efforts to support the AHA included inviting associates and customers to join them in raising crucial funds and awareness for heart health. As part of this campaign, the company encouraged customers to “Test Rest” a mattress in any of its showrooms. For each test, City donated to the AHA and rewarded customers with a gift card.

Expanding its reach across Florida, from Miami to Vero Beach and into Southwest and Central Florida, City’s initiatives have made and continue to make a significant impact:

+ Distributed heart-healthy food resources to 150,000 individuals at Mobile School Pantry and the Miami Dade College Pantry.

+ Shared “Healthy Starts at Home” resources with 12,000 individuals.

+ Provided 177 infant CPR Kits, 90 blood pressure monitors and 50 New Mom Kits (includes both infant CPR kits and blood pressure monitors) for expecting families and high risk mothers.

+ Donated 23 life-saving CPR and First Aid Anywhere Kits to United Way Houses, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Suncoast, and the Girls Scouts of Tropical Florida.

+ Donated 30 individual CPR Anytime kits and a stiped for an AED to the Girls Scouts of Tropical Florida

“City Furniture is committed to promoting heart health, supporting initiatives, and making a positive impact right here in South Florida,” said Marisol Garcia, executive director for the American Heart Association’s Greater Miami and Fort Lauderdale market. “We are grateful for the teams unwavering support through lifesaving donations and awareness campaigns. Together we are striving to create a healthier tomorrow.”

Additionally, City partnered with Florida Panthers and AHA to host a “Heart Dash” event at Amerant Bank Arena, promoting CPR training and heart health. During the event, local youth hockey players participated in a Heart Dash, showcasing their commitment to heart health awareness through physical activity on the ice. City also donated a CPR kit to the Panthers IceDen equipping young athletes with essential CPR skills to potentially save lives in cardiac emergencies.

All of these initiatives are part of CITY Furniture’s 5% Giving Pledge, which dedicates a minimum of five percent of net profits annually to building stronger communities.

Celebrating 100 years of saving lives nationwide, the AHA unites communities to honor those touched by heart disease and raise awareness and funds for a world without heart disease. CITY’s partnership and Mr. Koenig’s involvement with the AHA honors City’s founder, Kevin Koenig, who lost his life to heart disease, and benefits the local community through awareness around heart health education.

ARCADIA, Wis.  Ashley for the Arts, the annual three-day music and arts festival, is set to take place on Aug. 8, 9 and 10 at Memorial Park in Arcadia, Wisconsin.

In celebration of its 15th anniversary, the festival is expanding its music, food, art and entertainment experiences to enhance fun for the entire family. Attendees will experience some of the biggest names in music including Journey, Old Dominion, The Script, Bret Michaels and more. In addition to main stage performances, the three side stages will host a talented selection of performers with music all day including local artists, family-friendly shows and area school groups.

New additions to the festival include line-dancing lessons, a youth outdoor skills challenge, Xpogo Extreme Pogo Stunt Show and Dragoonies Flame Show, just to name a few highlights.

Ashley for the Arts also welcomes back the Art and Craft Fair, an inflatable air park as well as the fan favorite Timberworks Lumberjack show. Other off-stage entertainment offerings include a hot air balloon display, fireworks, a petting zoo, bingo, axe throwing, street performers and an interactive art space. The 15th anniversary event will kick off with the annual Pursuit of a Cure Glow Run and foam party, raising money to advance medical research and help offset medical costs for cancer patients.

Ashley for the Arts was established in 2009 when Ron Wanek, founder and chairman of Ashley Furniture Industries, and Todd Wanek, president and chief executive officer, were asked by community members to create a “social gathering” to bring awareness to the arts.

The one-day concert featured John McCutcheon, world-renowned folk singer, at Memorial Park. Attendance was estimated at 300 people. Throughout the 15 years, Ashley for the Arts has grown into an annual music and arts festival attracting tens of thousands of fans throughout the three-day weekend and has donated over $3.5 million for more than 70 participating nonprofit organizations, including local schools, children’s charities and medical research.

During the pandemic, in lieu of hosting the festival, Ashley for the Arts created the Community Cares Grant to support area nonprofits looking for assistance on projects focused on art, music and/or cultural activities. Since 2020, the grant has benefited four community projects including city murals through the Independence School District; musical playground equipment through the Rainbow Community Club; River Prairie Festival through the Eau Claire Area Economic Development; and most recently, a band shelter through the Fountain City Business and Community Club.

“As we celebrate the 15th anniversary of Ashley for the Arts, I am incredibly proud of the tremendous growth we have achieved over the years,” said Cole Bawek, event director of Ashley for the Arts. “What started as a small community event has blossomed into a nationally recognized festival, bringing joy, inspiration and cultural enrichment to thousands of people. None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support and dedication of our incredible fans and community. Our commitment to supporting the arts remains steadfast, and I look forward to the future as we continue to make a positive impact in the communities we serve.”

Three-day general admission tickets for this year’s Ashley for the Arts are online starting at $45 plus fees, with prices increasing on June 1. New this year, children’s tickets are available for $25 (ages 2-10). For additional event details, download the Ashley for the Arts app or visit the website.

HIGH POINT — At the October High Point Market Spectra Home showroom visitors wrote their special healing intentions on a beautiful linen fabric which was used to upholster a Tamara Day by Spectra Home Meyer Chair. Infused with hopeful, helpful energy it was raffled off after the April Market to benefit The Common Thread for The Cure Foundation.

The foundation provides confidential financial grants intended to assist individuals fighting breast cancer who are affiliated with the design and furnishings industry. The winner of the special one-of-a-kind Chair of Hope was showroom visitor Sarabeth Cahoon from Pinetown, North Carolina.

“My sister-in-law had recently been diagnosed with breast cancer,” chair winner Cahoon said. “I walked into the Spectra Home showroom at Market and once I saw the chair I knew that I needed to try and win it for her. She is very spiritual, and I know that this chair with all its healing energy will be a great comfort to her on her cancer journey.”

The Common Thread for the Cure Foundation was founded in 2000 by the late Suzann Burkhead-Bray and her brother, Scott Burkhead. They did this in honor of their younger sister, Sandra Burkhead Campbell, who died from breast cancer, to support and provide confidential grants to individuals fighting breast cancer who are affiliated with the design and furnishings industry. The grants enhance quality of life and can be used to meet any financial obligations, including household needs and transportation to medical appointments.

“Spectra Home Furniture would like to thank our partners for their generosity in making this Chair of Hope happen,” said Spectra Home president Jim Telleysh. “That list includes: Tamara Day and her team for their continued support of The Common Thread for The Cure; Shayne Global for providing the Meyer Chair; Port Orange Upholstery, Thomasville, North Carolina, for reupholstering the chair; Studio 323, High Point, North Carolina, for providing the chair photography; The Media Matters for introducing us to The Common Thread for The Cure and supporting the raffle; and everyone who took the time to write their heart-felt inspirations and kind words on
this work of art. We know that this Chair of Hope will make a difference in someone’s life when they need it the most.”

Spectra Home is also donating a portion of the proceeds from the Tamara Day by Spectra Home collection to the Foundation to help ease the financial burden that families with breast cancer are experiencing.

AVONDALE, Arizona — Mattress manufacturer King Koil is teaming with the Boys & Girls Club to sponsor a special afternoon of fun and entertainment that will benefit more than 125 children ages five to 12 who participate in the afterschool programs of the Boys and
Girls Club of Hilton Head Island.

Set for Tuesday, May 14, at 3 p.m., the event features a unique “Build a Bear” workshop experience during which each child can make their own fuzzy friend, along with interactive carnival games and a variety of entertainment, from face-painting and caricature artists to
balloon artists, jugglers, stilt walkers and a DJ. Games are scheduled to include relay and potato sack races, bubble wands, and there will be plenty of kid-friendly food on hand, right down to a Kona Ice/Ice Cream truck.

The activity is a featured part of a leading annual meeting for mattress and home furnishings retail executives.

“Our company has been sponsoring charitable events like this one for many years in different parts of the country,” said David Binke, chief executive officer of King Koil. “Our belief has been that while we gather to discuss the most pressing issues affecting our industry and learn from one another, we also need to be mindful of those less fortunate. I believe we all have a responsibility to do good where we can, both as individuals and as corporate citizens. I love doing things for kids and am always so honored to host events for the Boys & Girls Clubs and provide the children in their after-school programs with truly unforgettable experiences.”

Indeed, King Koil has long supported charitable organizations that benefit children, often in conjunction with major annual bedding industry events. Last year, the company hosted 125 children for “Drive to Thrive,” a thrilling afternoon at the iconic Phoenix International Raceway, a mile-long track more typically used during the NASCAR circuit races.

Several underwriting sponsorship opportunities are still available as the June 10 event approaches, says the event committee.

The 2024 honorees, David Binke of King Koil Mattress Co. and Catherine and Richard Frinier of Richard Frinier Design Studio, have been instrumental in raising awareness and critically needed funds for this 31st annual event that is one of two flagship fundraisers for the industry and City of Hope. The event committee encourages more leaders to answer the call to action and emphasizes City of Hope’s national and global impact, which has been supported by the International Home Furnishings Industry group with over $100 million since its partnership began in 1965.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — City of Hope’s International Home Furnishings Industry fundraising group and this year’s Spirit of Life honorees from Flexsteel Industries and Kuka Home raised more than $1.94 million for City of Hope, one of the largest cancer research and treatment organizations in the U.S. and a leading research center for diabetes and other life-threatening illnesses.

More than 850 industry professionals gathered at the annual Spirit of Life gala held Sunday, April 14, at the Four Seasons Sheraton, to recognize industry powerhouses Jerry Dittmer and Tim Newlin of Flexsteel and Matt Harrison of KUKA. With their philanthropic leadership and the generosity of the home furnishings industry, this year’s campaign brought in lifesaving funds to accelerate cancer research. A portion of these funds will specifically support the childhood cancer efforts at City of Hope.

Caitlin Herron, a 20-year-old pediatric cancer survivor, also addressed attendees of the gala. Diagnosed at age 12 with a rare and aggressive form of leukemia, Herron sought treatment from City of Hope, which has deep expertise with this type of cancer. Herron has been cancer free for five years and she shares her story to put a face to the disease and the lifesaving results of City of Hope’s world-class research, treatment and care.

“For six decades, the International Home Furnishings Industry has accelerated some of City of Hope’s most important innovations and breakthroughs in treating cancer and diabetes,” said Kristin Bertell, chief philanthropy officer for City of Hope. “Tonight, the group has supported our world-class pediatrics program — a program that not only saves lives but provides personalized, lifelong care so that pediatric cancer survivors can thrive. We’re incredibly grateful for IHFI’s legacy of support.”

During the event, Saro Armenian, D.O., M.P.H., Barron Hilton Chair in Pediatrics at City of Hope Children’s Cancer Center, described how his team’s work is transforming cancer care for children and young adults far beyond City of Hope’s metaphorical four walls.

“Philanthropy has a profound impact on patients around the globe,” Armenian said. “It’s not just City of Hope patients who benefit from new treatments and cures — it’s all people who face cancer and diabetes.”

The Spirit of Life committee and City of Hope recognizes and thanks the 2024 Spirit of Life top sponsors:

HIGH POINT — Case goods importer FD Home is donating a portion of the proceeds from the sales of its Tucker’s Legacy bedroom in memory of long-time sales rep Martin Tucker, who died on Dec. 15, 2023, at age 85.

Martin Tucker

Tucker lived in Phoenix and was the company’s sales rep for the Southwest.

He had a passion for fishing and had taken one of his grandchildren on a fishing trip to Alaska. Before he died, he had talked about taking another trip to Alaska with his family.

The proceeds from the sale of the bedroom will help fund a trip for his grandchildren and son-in-law, Mitch Barclay, who is also an industry sales rep.

Martin’s service to the furniture industry stretches over six decades,” said Steve York, president of FD Home. “His friendship and tireless energy is going to be missed.”

FD Home shows in Space 113 of Center Point on Centennial, where it is showing the Tucker’s Legacy bedroom and other bedroom and dining room collections.

The Tucker’s Legacy bedroom by FD Home is made with elm veneers and poplar solids in a finish called Portabella. The traditional cases feature framed details around the drawers and small corbel accents around the heavily scaled reeded posts. Drawers feature crystal knob pulls.
